Journal of Brain Research is a world class open access journal intended to publish the cutting-edge research in the field of Neurology or Neuroscience.

Journal of Brain Research endeavours to publish both basic, fundamental and advanced developmental research in all aspects of Neurological Disorders and treatments the journal aims to provide a platform for the exchange of scientific information addressing research topics in the field of Brain and Neurological sciences.

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 59 children today.

Several factors may influence the development of autism, and it is often accompanied by sensory sensitivities and medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures or sleep disorders, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and attention issues. Indicators of autism usually appear by age 2 or 3. Some associated development delays can appear even earlier, and often, it can be diagnosed as early as 18 months.

Autism can be marked by difficulties with social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and may involve repetitive behaviors or narrow, obsessive interests. Autism varies widely in its severity and symptoms and may go unrecognized for years, especially in children who are mildly affected or have other disabilities.

Other types of neurodevelopment disorders include:

Hypoxic/ischemic encephalopathy (brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation to a newborn’s brain),cerebral palsy (a group of disorders affecting ability to move due to damage to the developing brain during pregnancy or shortly after birth),developmental disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (a brain disorder marked by persistent inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development).

Therapies and behavioral interventions can bring about substantial improvement if administered early. There are investigations into the causes, diagnosis, early detection, prevention, and treatment of autism.

Symptoms:
• Abnormal Body Posturing or Facial Expressions
• Abnormal Tone of Voice
• Avoidance of Eye Contact or Poor Eye Contact
• Behavioral Disturbances
• Deficits in Language Comprehension
• Delay in Learning to Speak
• Flat or Monotonous Speech
• Inappropriate Social Interaction
• Intense Focus on One Topic
• Lack of Empathy
• Lack of Understanding Social Cues
• Learning Disability or Difficulty
• Not Engaging in Play With Peers

Tests used to diagnose autism:

Developmental screenings: The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) is a common screening tool used by many pediatric offices.

Other screenings and tests:
• DNA testing for genetic diseases
• behavioral evaluation
• visual and audio tests to rule out any issues with vision and hearing that aren’t related to autism
• occupational therapy screening
• developmental questionnaires, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

Treatment:
• behavioral therapy
• play therapy
• occupational therapy
• physical therapy
• speech therapy

Alternative treatments:
• high-dose vitamins
• chelation therapy, which involves flushing metals from the body
• hyperbaric oxygen therapy
• melatonin to address sleep issues

To Know about the latest advances in the treatment the Journal accepts original manuscripts in the form of Research articles, Review articles, Clinical reviews, Commentaries, Case reports, Perspectives and Short Communications encompassing all aspects of Brain Research for publication in open access platform.
